Observing the Lunar North West Quadrant + a bit more

Recommended Posts

I am usually a DSO observer but I did notice that areas of the Lunar NW quadrant would be observable thanks to libration. I decided to take out the small 130P Heritage scope and use my 11mm, 6.7mm and 4.7mm ES82 EPs which give 59x, 97x and 138x respectively.

Using my Hatfield Photo Atlas which I bought in 1968 I started with Hercules and Atlas moving down to Endymion and then onto Mare Humboldtianum which was very clear. Moving towards the West I found Gauss using Berosus and Hahn to confirm the location.

Staying with the 138x (4.7mm) EP I went up to Piccolomini and then followed the Altai Mountains to Catharina, Cyrillus and Theophilus.

A very enjoyable few hours with a nice little Reflector which was easily to set up.
