Comet 41P 02-04-2017 in Draco

Recommended Posts

I've just managed to pick up Comet 41P / Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresak in Draco. It's within a degree of Alpha Draconis so quite easy to find but it's still not a bright object by any means. At low power with my 12" dob it is a faint, diffused and rather amorphous patch of light. At higher powers though it starts to get a little more interesting and I've currently got 200x in the scope and I'm picking up a distinct, small, tight and slightly brighter central nucleus type region. Worth trying some power, if you are observing this one tonight.

It's rated at mag 8.68 by The Sky Live website but that must be an integrated figure I think.
