Flat frames

Recommended Posts

OK, I have tested the newly upgraded light box (bucket) and this is the result. I used AV +2EC to get the entire image mean value close to 25000.

Is the histogram in the right place? People are saying it should be at 1/2-2/3. I don't know but something doesn't look right to me.

Here is a RAW ISO800 flat frame. The histogram on this one has 2 peaks.

With a flat the position of the histogram isn't critical as you are very unlikely to get over exposed or under-exposed pixels as every bit of the image should be within a stop or two of the  mean exposure. I just use Av setting.

Your 'twin peaks' struck me as odd, so I looked at one of my master flats (the original subs are pale magenta, but the masterflt from DSS looks black - it works perfectly):

So it would seem there's nothing odd about twin peaks at all!
