Hi Rob,

From your description, I would suspect a laptop power issue.  The cold temp and duff battery can't be good.  Try your inside testing with the laptop charger connected.  If you can reproduce the problem, try your other Lodestar.  I think you have both mono and color.

p.s. After reading your signature, I see that it may be that you only have the mono and use filters to get color.

Hi Don, yes sadly I only have the mono Lodestar. I did actually use the laptop with the charger outside, should have mentioned that, but still worth testing inside I think to confirm your suspicions. I need a new battery anyway so will order one, but I will only make one change at a time so I can troubleshoot properly.  

The whole thing is a real pain, it's just one thing after another at the moment.
