LX90 Auto guiding

Hi Everyone

This is a question aimed specifically at the LX90.

I use a DSI through the the Meade Envisage software for guiding.

This means the DSI hooks up to the PC via the handset.

The Meade software guides well this way but i want to use my DMK for guiding now.

The question is can i set the DMK up through the hand set or do i need an external guide port (not supplied on the LX90 as standard).

I have tried this method using PHD but i dont think it guided at all even though

the camera and scope connected.

Advice on PHD and connecting a non Mead guider is much appriciated.

Many thanks

Ed

Just a quick reply as im at work . Firstly i wouldn't dump the DSI in favour for the DMK for autoguiding , especially using PHD . Ive tried my DMK through PHD and IMHO the DMK just cant pick up as many guide stars as the DSI.

The DSI is a superb Guide camera. If you sell it .....you may regret it.

Connection:

DSI / DMK ------> Computer USB

Computer Serial Port or USB serial converter ------->Meade Cable-------> Hand Controller

I had problems getting my LX90 scope to work properly with PHD , it just wouldnt move the scope to the star drift , until i got the modified Meade Pulse Guide Drivers.

IMPORTANT : Read the readme file that comes with the zip.

Hi Mark

That's the connections i use.

That's the problem i have.

Sounds like a winner to me.

I was checking the DMK for Guide stars and it was

performing satisfactorily. PHD just would not correct the drift.

Anyway i will put the fix in and post an update in six to eight weeks when the immanent clouds go

Thank you

Ed

Yep, I'd 'second that'. I used a DSI-C as a guide camera for a considerable period, and it did an excellent job.

Now moved up to a SX Lodestar guide cam, which is more sensitive, but the DSI was still impressive.
