That's excellent news. It would have been crazy to scale back or even lose such a world class facility. Unfortunately I guess that some other, less well-known research sites are going to suffer instead.

I find it depressing that there's been so much uncertainty over what should be the crown jewels of British science, all for the sake of £80m. I hope that I'm missing a bigger picture here and that we aren't at risk of repeating what we did in the late sixties with the British rocket programme, and throwing away the scientific expertise we have built up.
