Satellite Tracker App

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but can anybody suggest a good free satellite tracker app?

I had an awesome 7 minute or longer satellite sighting tonight by accident haha.

Thanks in advance.

Good question. Stellarium can do them if you turn them on in the plugins. I actually use Sky guide, its 2 quid and tracks  well indeed. It givesme a notification on my phone whenever a bright satellite( iss) is passing, it's always bang on!

Here's Previsat, on the same site as Stellarium:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/previsat/

This freeware will let you identify many satellites from your computer. Keep in mind though that weare allowed to be able to name about 40% of satellites up there - with the rest being covert, military and intelligence ones we aren't trusted with. We can see these with our eyes (and they can us, no doubt) - but whose or whats. Brighter ones such as Iridium sats are identified.

Keep it updated - set it do so on the autosettings.

I'm a bit unclear by what you mean by a "tracking".  If you're after software to tell you what satellites are visible, then the suggestions above are great.  There is also software that will allow you have you scope track satellites.

I gather that this can also be used on Skywatcher scopes of you are controlling the scope with EQASCOM using this plug in.
