M13 - Can you see this too?????

I was looking at Steve L's image of M13 recently (very nice image too), and noticed that he had managed to capture the Propellor rather well. Then I took a closer look and found that there might be a bit more to the Propellor than I first thought!

So here is the link to Steve's original image:

I thought I would try and enhance the detail of what it is that I can see so I turned Steve's image into black and white, adjusted the contrast and added some sharpening and hey presto ...... a pentagon appears! Well at least I can see one :) Here's the image after my adjustments:

You can see this same shape in Steve's image and also some others I have looked at too.

So, can anyone else see this pentagon or am I going to have to go to spec savers.

I see it.

funny you should say that, I was trying to see the Propellor in my image of M13 and got very confused because i could swear I could see two Propellor's joined together. :)

Ive had a look at Steve's original and it takes a bit of looking at but yes there appears to be a pentagon shape and if you expand the image even more distinct is an ovoid shape in the bottom right quadrant with what looks like a distinctive triple binary within the ovoid shape located near the top of the ovoid

its amazing what you can pick out from what at first glance looks like a non descript nebulous mass

Never mind all that, if you treat it like one of those stereoscopic pictures and focus thru the picture, then you see s 3d spider/octopus/facehugger, like one of those things in half life.

Yes Timetraveller, I can see that now as well. Interesting shape.

Whilst I was looking at it again it does also have an overall lenticular appearance. It has been noted in other observations as being 'squashed' on one side which could account for it, but its more likely that the alterations I made to Steve's original are causing the effect.

It does seem to have some strange structure though...... more puzzling
