Attaching a Camera

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of buying a Zwo camera - https://www.firstlightoptics.com/zwo-cameras/zwo-asi120mc-usb-2-colour-camera.html

Do these cameras fit in the visual back or the diagonal?

Is it better to use this with a barlow?

If these cameras fit to the visual back and is better to use with a barlow - what adapter do I need on the back of my CPC800 to fit my 2" barlow I already own?

Don't use the diagonal with a ZWO ASI. You are going for planetary imaging I assume so use the ASI with a Barlow. If you have a 2" Barlow you can use a 2" SCT adapter like a click lock

you may also want to consider a flip mirror. You will also need a 2" to 1.25" adapter to fit the camera to the Barlow - Revelation make one.

Thank you, my barlow came with the 1.25 adapter so I'm ok on that front. Whats a 'flip mirror' used for?

You use a flip mirror to help you to centre your target. It can be quite difficult to find/centre planets because of the small FOV of the camera. You put the camera and Barlow in the end of the flip mirror and an eyepiece in the top and the other end goes into the scope - you can then find the target using the EP (even if its a bit blurry) which has a much larger FOV.
