Solar filter film

Recommended Posts

So I usually do a pretty good job of keeping up with upcoming celestial events but I missed this Mercury transit. Only heard about it two days ago and no time to order a filter- theoretically I could have used Amazon Prime but my mail almost almost arrives mid-afternoon, AFTER the transit is supposed to end.

I'm in the desperation stages. My question to you is: is there ANYTHING that I could possibly get from a local hardware store, like mylar window film, that could do the job of astronomical solar film? I realize just how dangerous sunlight is if not filtered properly; that's why I'm asking here. If you know of something I might use I'd be eternally in your debt.

Thanks!

Is it really worth damaging your eyesight for? Watch the transit online. A member here is going to video it live tomorrow, so rather than trying to bodge it and potential damage to any eyes I'd play safe here and watch it from a screen. :)
