Free Mac Stacking Programs?

Recommended Posts

I am a Mac owner and the only one I know of is Lynkeos for planetary stacking.  I have to use my daughter's PC for all my astro related software.  As you may know, Nebulosity runs on a Mac and that will do it but there is a fee.

Yes DSS for mac I am not on my mac to give you a link.

Are you talking about Deep Sky Stacker? First time I hear of a Mac version. I run DSS on the Mac, but under a Windows virtual machine (Fusion in my case - perhaps Wine might work as well).

I don't think there are any versions of DSS which run natively on the Mac. Certainly, on the official web page (http://deepskystacker.free.fr/english/index.html) it is Windows only.

There is a version which has been wrapped with Wineskin by someone else, that might well work on a Mac. I've not tried it, but here's a link to the main page:

And here's the direct download - use at own risk:

Like Ecuador, I use a Mac, but run DSS within a virtual machine (VirtualBox in my case).

You are obviously using the regular Windows version under a Windows emulation or compatibility layer (probably Wine). You can do that with almost any Windows program. That does not mean they are "Mac" versions and they don't run as well as native Mac versions would, which is why we are trying to get native versions, but, sadly there does not seem to be something free like DSS available. E.g. I can run the Windows versions of StarTools, PhotoShop and PixInsight etc under Mac OS X, but performance-wise they are nowhere close to their native Mac versions.
