Collecting data over the years

Recommended Posts

I wanted to ask how to go about collecting & combining data from the same target over different periods or years: presumably you cannot re-use the same calibration files with for different time periods. Do you use (for example) the groups option in DSS in order to combine and stack data from different years or is there another method? Currently confused about it.

thank you, gfa

YES use  groups in DSS but do not use the main group1 , just use any sub in main group so you can  put each set of data in is own group , just member to untic the one sub in main group.

And if you are useing a DSLR all group have to the same ISO ect (1600) so you can not use 1600 in one and the one 800 do not work.

I just keep the calibrated stacks from a single project and use Registar to combine them with a second or third or fourth project as those happen.

The biggest thing, if you think this is going to be a regular habit (and it should be a regular habit!) is to stick to a camera orientation along RA and Dec. Whether portrait or landscape may be target-specific but don't use random camera angles unless you really have to. You'll certainly regret it in later years.
