Which scope to get

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine wants a telescope to use on the moon and planets to only use in an area with street lighting. I said to get a refracter. He has only got £100 maximum to spend. Any suggestions on which scope to get?

I'd second the Astromaster 70mm refractor at about 75 pounds. It has a 900mm focal length, so easier to achieve magnification than a shorter tube. The Astromaster 90mm would be better but its 139 pounds.

I'd also recommend the cheaper Alt-azimuth mounts over Equatorial at this level which I find are generally somewhat unstable and imprecise.
