... as a source of very good quality first surface mirror and very flat as well...

I have just taken apart an old hdd and was very surprised at the quality of the mirror that is the platter (got two out of one hdd).

Has anybody tried it?

Might be a problem with thermal expansion (I understand they are platinum plated aluminium discs).
