light-pollution filter basic question

Apologies for a basic question but what do you actually screw the lightpollution filter on?

I am trying to determine what size to get and where it is supposed to go exactly..

I have the following set up (just ordered, not tried or opened yet): William Optics GT81 (with reducer/flattener), Celestron EdgeHD 8 (with reducer/flattener), eyepiece pentax zoom, Nikon d750, Televue 2.5x Barlow.

I also am not sure whether to get the Idas LPS-P2 or the Astronomik CLS. I read more favourable things about the IDAS. (I live in a heavily light-polluted area).

I would like to get a CCD camera later. Will I be able to use the same filter with it?

Again, apologies for probably a stupid question in advance.

thanks, gfa

I have the astronomik class filter for my Canon 450 d it replaces the uv/ir cut filter that covers the chip in the camera mine was already done as I bought the camera 2nd hand you my need to convert your camera for astrophotography if not already done , I think it just clips in rather than screws , unless you mean a light pollution filter for viewing in which case it would screw into the end of your eyepiece or barlow .

Well, I was going to order this filter: http://www.firstlightoptics.com/light-pollution-reduction/idas-p2-light-pollution-suppression-filter.html

and it says that it is (in their opinion) the best filter for astro photography. But where exactly would I need to screw it on? I am not sure this is supposed to go inside the DSLR.

It would either go on a filter wheel or on the end of an eye piece.

If you are using neither and have a DSLR, you can buy a nose piece and T ring adapter from FLO:

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adapters/flo-2-inch-t-mount-camera-adapter.html

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adapters/t-rings.html

This assumes you have a 2" focuser.

You can also get a filter that attaches directly to the DSLR, although I only know of ones designed for Canon cameras

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/light-pollution-reduction-imaging/idas-mfa-filter-adapter-kit-for-canon-eos.html

I went through this same headache as you!

Also, as it happens, I have the IDAS LPS P2 filter that connects to the canon camera up for sale on AstroBuySell if you are interested.
