Glow in centre of FOV

I am tottering my first steps using a DSLR attached to a 8" Newtonian. Having established that I cannot focus without a Barlow, I have tried using a Celestron branded one (Ebay special). Very cheap, but I am guessing, also the cause of the 'central glow'?

I imagine solution to involve money...

Flats will help with the uneven light gradient in your images. You can also remove it with software light PS afterwards.

Agreed flats will solve that so not necessarily an expense.
