Wonderful clear and steady blue skies today. The seeing was exceptionally good, so much so that I was able to detect subtle differences in tone in some of the umbrae - a kind of very deep dark brown - especially in AR 2253 which is putting on a fine display of pores, light bridges and subtle streaking within the penumbrae. Faculae was very prominent and suggests the promise of some new activity tomorrow.

Thanks Dave I've noticed this subtle shading or tone difference before, but it's been a while since the last time. I can only describe some of the sunspots as having a deep, dusky blood-brown hue. Guess it has something to do with the intensity of the magnetic field and the storm raging there above
