October 26, 2014: Monster on the edge

Recommended Posts

Just had a look at the monster at 9:00 CET. Seeing was bad as the sun was low over the chemistry building, but the monster showed up right up close to the edge. I could also spot it in white light with eclipse glasses. The big "centipede" filament is still going strong, and another long filament shows up southwards. There is also a promising prominence on the eastern limb. Maybe something lurks around that corner too. Will have another look at lunchtime

Just back in from observing (10:00-10:45 GMT) it through my Coronado Binomite 12x60 solar binoculars. The monster is very clear, no sign of the filaments in white light through the bins but 3 other small spots visible. One dead centre, one on the equator around 3/5 of the way to the E edge and one about midway from centre to edge at about 7 oclock
