" Onion ring " effect on Jupiter

As you can see from this image there is a strange ring around the limb of Jupiter

This was a 2x Barlow image but @ F10  no " Onion ring " 

So does anybody have experience of this and why it happens and how to remove it ?

Looks like to low gain effect. Sometimes seeing may also make it more visible than usual.

Rik is correct, it is often the result of weak signal being stretched and the effect of wavelet sharpening. Increase gain, use a faster F ratio scope or use a more sensitive camera.
