Focal reducers

I have a 0.5 focal reducer, this is a 1.25 fit that screws into a 2" to 1.25 ep holder or diagonal, if i were to use this in my 150 pro mak, i guess it would sort of turn it into a 6" f6, rather than 6" f12 giving a larger field of view? do these reducers work ok or should i give it a miss ?

You are correct that it will half your f/ratio and double your FoV. How well it will control the star, I'm not sure. Those big reducer tend to add a lot of coma to scopes, especially with wide EPs.

I tried my Meade reducer .63 in my Mak and it did not work. I was using the 2 inch system with larger eyepieces. My 24mm UWA at the time worked in the Meade LX which has a F/L of 3048mm but would not work in the Maksutov at 2700mm, so something is not the same as there was a great deal of vignette around the edge.  It may work with shorter eyepieces but that sort of defeats the point.
