August 15, 2014: an early bird catches the proms

Recommended Posts

I had a look at the sun in H-alpha this morning, and the views were very nice indeed. A lovely complex set of low arcs could be seen on the western limb, where a set of filaments has just crossed the limb. North of this, two small arcs showed, and further north still a fainter prominence stood out straight from the limb. On the east another couple of proms showed. A few filaments could be seen on the disk, in particular the western half, and a few smaller active regions showed up clearly on the east, with a few sunspots surrounded by very bright plage. Very active looking, especially one closer two the eastern limb. The beautiful "sunflower" sunspot is getting closer to the western limb now. Not many days before it bows out. It seems so stable I feel it might make another appearance.

Hope to have another shot later.
