Your pier plate

I was wondering what position is your pier plate installed in

Do you point the dowel north or true north (polaris position )

You should always be pointing to True North, which is close to Polaris but is not Polaris.

I assume the other North is magnetic, forget that it is just where a big magnetic pole appears to be and it's moving anyway.

Cool that. On the dowel there is a slit should that face ture north

I just did it by eye, it doesn't need to be exact because you've got plenty adjustment on the mount.
