Vallis Rheita
Imagine being shot by a machine gun that expels bullets 1-2 km in diameter ! I do not know if this would be the caliber . But this was more or less what happened in this area northeast of the crater Janssen . The fireball that gave rise to the formation of Mare Nectaris basin dug a deep hole and the stones removed were thrown out as dust , stones that were small mountains . Some of these mountains can come to this area during its short flight , leaving a number of pieces along the way . Or perhaps a mass of pre - existing material was fractured and expelled as a stream of previously adjacent pieces of crust. In both cases a series of small mountains fell from the sky , creating overlapping craters Valley Rheita .
This low light made by me , wonderfully captures four or five members of the side chain between Rheita (71 km, upper right ) and Young (51 km, center-right ) craters . Rheita partially overlaps the main crater in the chain , which is more degraded than the other , and also has a rounded front that always makes him look like a snake .
