March 25, 2014: Some nice activity in H-alpha

Recommended Posts

Had a little early-morning jaunt with the LS35, and spotted some nice activity on the sun, although there weren't any of the huge proms seen last week. The centre of the disk is dominated by a big AR, consisting of a large sunspot and an intricate zigzagging "wave" of bright and dark structures to the east. The entire structure is surrounded by light and dark swirls. Some way below this AR a large dark filament can be seen, and to its east another, near linear filament I spotted yesterday is visible. Several smaller ARs dot the surface, and a many smaller proms can be seen on the westerns limb. High up on the eastern limb a prom is visible that looks like an inverted triangle with loads of internal structure, with the tip just touching the surface. It almost looks like a detached prom, but it isn't quite. I will have another look around lunchtime.
