Skywatcher AZ3 mount

I'm a AZ-3 user. Mine (2-3 years old) does not use a dovetail mount system - it has a flat saddle plate with a hole at either end through which bolts fasten the standard Skywatcher tube rings in place. Simple enough and works well but it would be slightly easier if it did have a dovetail system I suppose.

Here is an excellent web article by one of our SGL members giving loads of info on this mount:

I really like my AZ-3 :D

John, Yes thanks. Means I can't mount the Konus on the AZ3 using rings as the dew shield is in the way, and I can't see anyway to move it. I'd have to get the photo tripod adapter thingy...

If you are talking about an 80mm short tube refractor then you can get away with a single tube ring as the OTA is so light. Alternatively make a plate with 2 sets of holes - I made one with hardwood which was pretty firm.
