Lunar and Planetary shots will require quite short exposures possibly as quick as 1/200, where anything else could require a vast amount of time more anything from a few seconds to minutes. If you are trying to capture DSO they you will need a setup that has good tracking on the scope due to the length of the exposures. Again post what equipment you have so that someone who knows can let you know you can get away with.

Set the camera to manual, no need to worry about the aperture as that's fixed by the scope itself where all you need to worry about is the exposure time. It's also best to have a remote to cut down on any movement and vibration when taking the shot. If you don't have one then you could use the timer to get away with things for starters.
