HEQ5 Mount Head

HI,

Just How stiff should it be to rotate the head on a HEQ5 ? is there any adjustmant ????.I have slackend the locking knob right of buy removing it and winding out the brass screw just to see if it helped but still very stiff.

There is plenty scope for adjustment, which bit is stiff?

The part with the two bolts that tighten up to hold the dove tail on the scope it seems really difficult (stiff) to rotate.is this the dec part of the mount ?

Is it refusing to turn when the motors run? A re-grease may help. TBH if the mount 's working fine whilst running on the motors don't get too hung up on it. My Dec is a little stiff, certainly not as free as the RA but once the scope's on and the thing's turned on it makes no odds.

might it be that there's a mal-adjustment of the actual locking knob, and that when it hits the stopper it hasn't actually fully released the axis?

Sounds like the bearing preload is a little too much.

I'll try to dig out some photos of the adjustment bit.
