My take on Orion

Recommended Posts

First attempt at the great nebula.

10 X 10 sec subs plus darks

sadly it was my first attempt at photography and the clock drive was giving me issues (ironed out now) so I lost most of my longer subs to star trails. This meant I could only use one of the longer exposures layered onto the stacked shorts - hence the noise.
That said I'm quite chuffed with the results. I've already learned that if I'm imaging then I'm imaging all night , so I'm trying to do 50 / 50 imaging / observing - but with the weather as it is right now , it's a struggle to do anything.

Looking forward to getting back out there and getting some more photos.

Thanks to this forum and you guys (and Steve Richards book) I have a rough idea of what I'm doing , just need to get me some more practice :)

A nice start, and pretty good for the sub lengths and count. Keep at it. As for observing and imaging... a pair of binoculars is a great way to go. Setup the imaging rig and set it running, then just have a look around with the bino's, it's a very relaxed and easy way to view.
