Astro Forecasting

Does anyone happen to know how to forecast things such as cloud cover and seeing and transparency given a set of weather sensor measurements for a given area?

I am wondering because I've built my own weather station, but I'd like to hook it up to something that would do the above predictions for 48 hours or even less.

I've seen websites that do this, but I've no idea how they work.

Does anyone know?

Look at Weewx or Cumulus software.  I use Weewx on an old laptop home server at http://stuw.dyndns.org/weewx/ which uses Weather Underground to get forecasts.  If you want to do your own forecasting look at the Zambretti algorithm (http://www.meteormetrics.com/zambretti.htm).  I think Gina has some good experience with weather stations and may be worth asking.

I wish I did know how to forecast the weather - accurately.  A certain amount of forecasting is possible from atmospheric pressure readings, wind direction and speed etc. and there are times when a very local forecast can be more accurate than the Met Office but in general the weather is an entity only known to itself.  I have done a fair bit to record the local weather automatically but I'm afraid I don't have any way of forecasting that beats the boys and girls down the road in Exeter :(
