Sirius - without instrument response

Recommended Posts

Morning

Yes me again, so for the time being Instrument Response is I struggled and want to get on with the hobby, and whilst the IR does have a place at my level without it I can still see interesting information. Processing has been undertaken with RSpec

So assuming what follows is correct I can then concentrate on capturing and processing spectra (thanks to all for the patience shown)

Sirius Raw Spectrum

Sirius Calibrated Spectrum

Sirius Calibrated Spectrum with a ref spectrum for comparison to ensure my features line up (which they seem to)

Sirius Calibrated and Cropped Spectrum

And finally Normalised for enhanced spectra

The only thing not done is the labelling of the features

Thanks again for looking

Hi John,

Pretty good. When you normalise, pay particular attention to how well the smoothed curve fits the continuum at the extreme ends. Small errors  have caused the drop off at the blue end and the rise at the red end in your normalised spectrum. Here is an example of mine (P Cygni).  The fit  to the continuum here is good except at the extreme blue end which has produced a small flick up.

Cheers

Robin

Hi John,

Pretty good.

Just to clarify, when I said pretty good, I meant the normalising. The raw  spectrum is excellent.  Some of the ripples between H alpha and H beta are due to the response of the camera (QHY5?) and are unfortunately rather tricky to remove, even with a good instrument response.  You will see them in all your spectra in the same locations though so are easy to identify.

Cheers
