Cg5 and evostar

Recommended Posts

Just wondered if any of you had any experience of a skywatcher 6 inch refractor- the long one! And a celestron cg 5 goto. I have a cg5 tracking tripod, but not used it due to unfortunate working hours. I know its on its weight limit with this telescope and I need about £300 to convert it to a full go to. I do not have funds for anything else and would like to make sure its going to be worth it. Thank you.

I doubt it. Skywatcher usually sells correct or under-mounted whole setup. The Evostar 150 is sold with HEQ-5 or EQ6, even the lighter and shorter Startravel 150 is sold with HEQ-5, and HEQ-5 is a more sturdy mount than CG5 as I understand it.

I've used a 6" F/8 refractor on a Celestron CG5 mount. With motor drives on both axis, to avoid having to touch the scope much, its OK for visual observing. An HEQ5 or EQ6 would be better of course but the CG5 is usable.
