Forever dreaming of an upgrade

Recommended Posts

I am always thinking of upgrading from my current NexStar 4SE. I think this time next year I will have the money to get a HEQ5 Syntrek, which will eventually go on a pier in my garden. But what to put on it? The main thing will be my DSLR and camera lenses and in the long run a C9.25, but in the short term I won't have any cash.

I'm thinking about getting a 150PDS, BUT I wonder if it will be much of an upgrade over the 4SE. It should go about one magnitude deeper, so I should notice that difference on star clusters, particularly the brighter globulars. And I should have more light to enable better magnification on planets, and of course 50% better angular resolution. I would have to make do with the scope for a couple of years though.

I would have to purchase a whole new set of planetary EPs though.
