hi all,

 i have just bought the nexstar 8se, assembled it no problem, the first message on the handset was "invalid model, no response 17, cycle power or go back to continue, some features might not work properly! i got to the main menu but there is no power to the motor, not left to right or up and down, apart from the obvious send it back, does anyone have any sensible ideas

According to Michael Swansons NeexStar User guide this is due to faulty power.  Are you using batteries?

Hello Alan, welcome to the forum. As already posted, power supply problems can resort to all sorts of peculiar problems, particularly with batteries. Whereabouts in Tenerife are you?, I have a place in Tenerife with a 8SE but I won't be back until March.
