M 45, Old Data in PI

Hi,

This is a reprocess of data taken a few weeks back, I did not want to post the first process as I found that DSS had produced weird artefacts due to adding of calibration frames, this image has no darks or flats or bias added and strangely there are no artefacts, just noise. The image is nothing to write home about but demonstrates the point. 11X240s, Atik 428EX OSC, Idas P2, Ascension 80mm Apo Triplet @F4.8.

Regards,

A.G

Just a thought, but your calibration files couldn't be inverted, could they? I've had this. It's possible inadvertently to introduce a 180 rotation into your workflow. In my case it comes from an option in the capture programme which can be applied accidentally, but it can also come from using different software to assemble the calibration files and the lights. This has also happened to one or two guests over the years.

Good Morning olly,

I will check this out, the problem was  the grain type noise that was introduced into the capture.

Many thanks for pointing this out.

Hi,

Thanks to Olly, Francis and Steve. I have done a reprocess of the data in PI with a little more playing with the DBE parameters then I did an ABE with Division activated and it seems to have worked a little better. I still have problem with noise and its effective reduction in PI. But I think that the image looks a little better . I did a final noise reduction in PS with masking before conversion to PNG and resizing. Hope that you approve.

Regards,

A.G

PS: What is TGV denoising and why is it so complicated?
