Why won't Acer laptop charge battery?

I have a Acer Aspire 1820PT laptop. I have replaced the battery and the charger,such as http://www.caccu.nl/acer-aspire-timeline-1820pt.html . While the laptop will run on AC power it will not charge the battery. It says plugged in not charging. If I restart the laptop I get an error screen that says the charger is not recognized. Is there a solution to this? I know there is an identification pin in the plug end of the charger and it is still there. Any suggest is welcome.Thanks in advance.

If you still have the old charger and battery try them, if they work send the new bits back.....

If you delete the driver for this and re start your laptop windows will search and re install the driver and this should then start charging again:)
