Life outside for an EQ3-2

I would love to polar align my EQ3-2 in the garden and leave it there for a few days... months... years.  If I put a tarpaulin over it would that be sufficient, perhpas loads of lubrication and what not?  I would take off the OTA, finder, and my RA tracker.   Any advice appreciated.

Or perhaps some sort of slide off or lift off cover ?   A lightweight design using timber and corrugated plastic could work, as long as it can be securely held down in windy weather.

My EQ3-2 has lived atop of the big pier quite happily for 1-1/2 winters so far , double wrapped in a HD bin-bag with a strong woven sack on top.
