M65 and M66

A quick sketch of M65 and M66 from Saturday morning. I had to work fast because the Moon was rising and the Sun was about to. After tidying up in Paintshop Pro this is the result.

Very nice John.

I don't think you can beat seeing more than one galaxy in the same field of view.

Using Paintshop Pro certainly makes for a very clean sketch aswell.

I imagine sketching is very rewarding and guides the observer to really search out the detail.

I'm a very poor drawer but, inspired by what I see here, I hope to have a go at sketching one night.

As you say Mike seeing two galaxies in the same fov is always nice. Its the first time I've seen these two and I definitely want to have another look at them under a darker sky. M81 and M82 are my favourites. 

I'm no artist either Paul but I do enjoy sketching at the eyepiece and would recommend it to anyone. Often its just a case of drawing dots and smudges which takes no great skill. I then like to scan my efforts into Paintshop to tidy them up and colour invert them. The resulting images are no great works of art but I do like to keep them just as a reminder of what I've seen and when.
