light pollution

Recommended Posts

This site   http://www.widescreen-centre.co.uk/Catalogue/Dew%20Shields.html  produces ready made dewshield/ light reduction hoods, made to measure, but doesnt help you in measuring your own scope. These hoods are lined too, but for simple light shielding I would cut a length of camping foam matting sufficient to wrap once or twice around the end of the scope and hold that in place with a bungee cord, around the neck of the telescope.  Some mats already come with two cords to secure the roll, so cut somewhere from the corded end, roll around the telescope, and tie off. If you use the hood often, a couple of plastic tie-wraps( double or trebbled up) will hold the  roll together, or hand stitch it with fishing line or just wrap same Duck tape around the matting. Your tube already offers some light prevention, but a little more may help.
