Dear SL,

I'm thinking of buying an over 10 year old Vixen R200SS with coma corrector and the standard focuser and am hopefully paying 300 euro's.

Not sure though, the guy has a lot of interest. The mirror is in top condition.

You think this is a good deal?

I would say  yes if its in good nick  they are £1200 new and I have seen them go for £800 s/h. (sorry I posted this just as you did somebody a got a good deal)

Nice compact scope, collimation is crucial.

Only problem with these is if the primary needs a recoat, because the precise optical curve is attained by a differential coating process across the mirror.  The coating is not an even thickness, so a standard recoat would not suffice.

I'm not aware of any other manufacturer that does it that way.

This wouldn't stop me buying one at the right price if the coatings are good, shame you missed it.

Hmm very informative post Ed, didn't know that. since I'm in this hobby for a long long time to come, maybe this isn't the best scope for me afterall (trying to make myself feel good, haha).
