Primary mirror thermometer setup?

I happened to be in Maplins today so I picked up one of their internal/external thermometers to go on the newt.

However, the exterior sensor (the one to be attached to the primary mirror) isnt quite flat, which would lead to an inaccurate reading as it would not in full contact with the primary.

Will wrapping it in a bit of foil along with some thermal paste improve the thermal sensitivity on a flat surface? Ive yet to add a fan too, so im also thinking of insulating the sensor on one side so it more accurately senses the mirror temperature, and not the temperature of the air pumped in my the fan.
