October 22, 2013: Another Solar Lunch with proms galore

Recommended Posts

Just had a look through the trusty little LS35 and spotted loads of proms, mainly on the western limb. One large one was high to the north, almost looking like a tree, another large complex of proms, looking like breaking waves just after crashing, could be seen near the equator. Several smaller proms dotted the limb on the western side. The surface looked spectacular too. A huge, pear-shaped sunspot was visible southwards near the meridian. A complex set of smaller ones with intricate bright and dark filaments was visible further north. To the west of these two ARs, several large filaments could be seen.

I switched EPs a couple of times, but the MaxVision 24 and the 12T4 Nagler gave the best views. The skies were not transparent enough for the XW10 or XF8.5.

Really enjoyable lunch (quite apart from the tasty bit of beef stew left over from yesterday)
