Just a quick review. Got this as a finder EP for my 10" F5 Dob. Feels very solid. Smooth twist eyecup/guard.

Popped it in last night under a very moonlit sky. Nice clear image. Stars excellent, almost to the very edge. So much so I didn't notice any ugliness at all. Found there was a bit of a trick to eye placement though. Felt there was an appreciable amount of kidney beaning. Once I had adjusted the twist up eyecup to suit me, it was eliminated. I like the view, giving me about 1.3* of sky. I have 2" EPs that'll give me 2*, but found on the quick sessions, that I liked just using 1.25" EPs. On a longer session, I'll use 2" EPs or wheel out the 16" LB. Happy though with this for <€100 !!

Can definitely recommend it for F5 scopes as a wide field or as a finder.

I wonder. I bought one of these to fit in my Lunt Wedge and found it a tad fussy over eye placement, although as mentioned, correct eyecup extension solves the issue. I haven't noticed since on deep sky objects, but noted it again on the moon last night.

Is it possible that kidney-beaning is in some way effected by iris dilation? Both the moon and sun (due to the surrounding daylight) must result in far greater pupil contraction, than regular night time subjects.

I must say I concur with the fuss free nature of sticking to 1.25" EPs on shorter sessions - There's so little weight difference between the 8.8mm 82* through to the 24mm 68*, I have no need to re-balance the Dob, or the EQ Frac. I find myself dodging the 2" EPs and I even sold the 18mm 82* because it was never getting used between the 16 and 24mm 68* for exactly this reason. That and the 68* are sharper.

The pupil diameter might well influence kidney-beaning. Having said that, I use mine on the sun more than anything, and rarely had issues with kidney-beaning. Not extending the eye cup might be just right for me, given that my glasses are just a mm or two from the EP when viewing.
