Sony α 380

I currently have the Canon EOS 300D.

there is a Sony a380 in my local CEX store for £145. They will offer me £75 trade-in on my EOS

Is the a380 any good for Astro or is the EOS better?

They have been used succesfully for astro photos and I've seen some reasonable shots taken with the Sony.

To me the major disadvantage to going non-Canon is the lack of software support from camera control packages. The Canon is highly regarded and well supported and you'll find that for that kind of money you should be able to pickup a Canon 1000D or maybe a 1100D.

What is the size of the Sony sensors? These use the Minolta A mounts as far as I know because Sony bought Minolta about a decade ago.
