Hi Mark and welcome. The reason your stellarium is reverting from your settings is that you need to save your new input information. On the left hand side go to configuration window and you will see the save option. Another good freeware which I prefer is Cartes de Ciel.

A planisphere is very useful.

I would also recomend "The backyard astronomers guide" by Terence Dickinson.

Plenty of stuff you can do without a telescope. Use the free planetarium programme to familiarise yourself with the night sky.

A pair of binoculars too are a useful aid, they can show the Milky Way, our galaxy, and some of it's brighter clusters.

You have a wealth of knowledge for to tap into on the forum, and the guys and gals are more than ready to help and advise.

Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage too. At least I hope it's you getting wed, you didn't actually say as much .

Welcome from me, too, Mark. Certainly that first view of Saturn is something to cherish...I can still remember shouting "WOW" at about 3 am one night and suddenly not noticing I was freezing cold!
