Ffestiniog Wide Milky Way Views

Recommended Posts

Hello All

I took some Milky Way pictures that I took on top of a hill in Snowdonia at the weekend and wanted to share (show off) the results. I drove out from Manchester in the day, did some walking around Colwyn Bay then headed for the hills to do some evening walking and night sky pictures. I headed down the mountain at about 3.30 slept for an hour in my car and then travelled back to Manchester to get in at 7 in the morning! Please let me know what you think, any constructive feedback would be great.

Stacked Milky Way pic over hills and lights.

Closer pic of where I think the centre of the Milky Way is. This one I am especially interested in what I have taken, at the moment I dont know! I think I've mised the Centre and gone too high.

Milky Way through Cygnus. This was the only real part of the sky that the Milky way was visible to the naked eye. Its pretty much pointing directly up at the zenith!

Every now and again I see an image that really captures my imagination. " Wide Field View over Ffestiniog area " does it for me.

It makes me wish I'd been there.

Love it,

Dave.

Thanks for all the comments.

I will hopefully revisit the Milky Way again from a darker location at some point but to capture the centre it has to be around this time of year. The closest I have come to truely dark skies was at Haltwistle in Northumberland but on that occasion the Moon was somewhat running the show! Surprise View in the Peak District was ok but there were too many cars wissing about. The Brecon Beacons, the Lake District and Galloway are on all on my list. I am off to a wedding in Norfolk this weekend so I doubt I will have the chance to do anything. I have however heard that the skies there are quite good.

These proper guarenteed clear nights where you can travel out only seem to come around at the weekends 4-5 times a year and further to that they have to coincide with a free weekend. I am hoping one such weekend will be for Ison later in the year.

Long may the clear weather we are having continue!

Andy
