It's here and set up and is a thing of beauty. the first impressions are that it is well engineered and good quality - as it should be for the price! But a mount is for life!

The various means of adjustment are all more substantial than the HEQ5. The level bubble would be better on the tripod than on the mount itself I think because you have to adjust level with the tripod legs with the heavy mount already in place.

I am really looking forward to testing the various modes now - equatorial or Alt-Az and the non-Polaris polar alignment!

Why there are cable ties on the tube? Dovetail not fixed strongly enough?

The cable ties are for the Telrad. Not very pretty are they? I will tidy them when I'm convinced about the position

You're in the camp of those who dislike sticky bits on their OTAs..?

No I'm in the camp of not liking the Telrad falling off because the sticky pads are not good enough! Which it did It's a good bit of kit but relying on sticky pads in the cold and the damp doesn't work.

Now I am in the process of mounting my telrad on a standard finderscope bracket. Then I wont have to use any sticky bits...

I couldn't see how to use the bracket but I could possibly use its screw fixing holes to fit the Telrad base. I'm certainly not brave enough to drill more holes in OTA!

That is what I meant, use the bracket area on the tube. You can fix the telrad base to the bracket.

Used it for the first time but I was late starting so concentrated on Saturn rather than alignment etc. I was amazed at how quiet it was - when it first slewed I thought it wasn't working!
