3 years of solar activity

NASA has released a video consisting of 3 years of SDO images.

From the Solar Dynamics Observatory website.

"In the three years since it first provided images of the sun in the spring of 2010, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory has had virtually unbroken coverage of the sun's rise toward solar maximum, the peak of solar activity in its regular 11-year cycle. This video shows those three years of the sun at a pace of two images per day."

I've seen the solar "rain" a few times over the years I've been using Ha telescopes, unfortunately real time images move too slowly to show the "rainfall" like the superb animation does.

I must admit I had never heard of such a thing before.

The more I've got into solar observing the more I realize that you can be surprised and awed every time you look at our star.
