Barn door tracker - need suitable tripod/ball-head socket

Planning on making a simple hand driven barn door tracker, I have most of the materials already as my father has a workshop. However, I need some pointers where to pick up a few items; the Ball-head socket, and the thing the tripod has to secure the board (what is that?) I also don't even own a tripod, so if anyone wants to recommend one, go right ahead.

Refer to my intrduction thread. I recommended a tripod that comes with a detachable ball head. You may want to try one of the bar door mounts that incorporates the curved threaded rod instead of this one. I'll have to give it a look to see if I can find the link to the one I built.
