AZ SynScan Goto from the mains? Electrical questions.

I hope someone who is good with electricity can answer this.

I'm trying to figure out what type of mains adaptor / transformer would I need to drive a SW AZ Synscan mount from the 230V mains.

How many amps does it need to deliver?

Does it have to be 12V exactly or would a transformer marked 13.8V work?

I'm sure this is really basic stuff but electrical power was not part of my Jedi training.

Thanks!

Steve

Hi there, dont get any higher then 12v, or you risk blowing it :) , you can pick up a 12DC 2.1mm Tip Positive -(o+ with a mains plug on the other end for around £5. Works a treat for me CPC.co.uk always have them

I'd say you have to have a properly regulated 12-14V supply that can deliver 5A. You always need a margin. No small direct-to-wall adapter is good enough. There is a reason why mounts that are delivered with mains supply have a proper supply.

I would suggest this type or similar:
