Finder Scope upgrade

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to upgrade my basic finder, a 6X30 that came with my scope and i'm not sure whether to go with a Red Dot Finder, and if so which one, or for a Sky watcher Right Angle Erect etc.

Any thoughts, experiences you may have would be much appreciated.

I have RDF and find it very accurate ans simple to use.

Something to consider - The lens on mine is a little dark and it can be difficult to see some stars even though they are visible with the eye, you may want to get one with a clear lens, if they are available.

Thanks to you both, I've been leaning towards a RDF so it narrows it down a bit. Thanks for the heads up on the lens.

Personaly, if you're using an eq mount, I would go for the right angled finder every time, purely due to the fact, that because of the mount, you end up in all sorts of awkward positions....solved by the right angled finder, far better than any straight through finder, which is what an rdf is....with an rdf you will still have to bend over backwards to use it, a right angled finder solves this problem to a large extent, and can be used for some great obs, I still think that my best views of the Pliedes have been through the finder rather than the scope
